Descaling on Statesville water
Manufacturers write one descaling interval for the whole country, and it is set for hard water. Yours comes from the City of Statesville, and where that supply is soft the exchanger fouls considerably more slowly than that schedule assumes.
We will tell you honestly where you sit on that, because the alternative is descaling a unit annually that does not need it. Two caveats worth knowing before you skip it entirely: some manufacturers require documented annual servicing to keep the heat exchanger warranty valid, which is worth more than the service costs, and a property on a private well is a completely different conversation from one on the municipal supply.
- Descale on an interval that matches your actual water rather than the manual's default.
- Inlet filter clean, which is the most commonly skipped job and the cheapest.
- Flow rate and combustion check, so a declining unit is caught before it fails in January.

What Statesville itself changes
The housing in Statesville
Statesville is the Iredell county seat and it has been a town since 1789, which shows in the housing. Three separate historic districts are on the National Register here: Academy Hill, built mainly between 1885 and 1930, South Race Street, and the Commercial district dating from about 1875 to 1925. Around that core sits a much newer ring of subdivision building. A water heater call in the historic district and a water heater call off the bypass are effectively two different jobs, and quoting them the same way is how people end up surprised.
Where the heaters sit
Crawlspace, basement-adjacent utility space and closet through the older neighbourhoods around downtown, Signal Hill and the Race Street area. Garage and attic in the newer building out towards West Iredell and Brookdale. Access is priced before the visit.
