Replacing a tankless in Troutman
A tankless that has failed is not automatically a tankless that needs replacing. Heat exchangers commonly carry twelve to fifteen year cover while the rest of the unit carries around five, and the exchanger is the most common terminal failure. We run the serial and check the warranty before quoting you for a new unit, because the part is frequently covered even when the labour is not.
Where a replacement is genuinely warranted, the second unit is usually a much simpler job than the first was: the gas line, the venting and the condensate route already exist and were sized once. In Troutman the permit goes through Iredell County, with Troutman staff reviewing the zoning, and a like-for-like swap in the same location is a considerably lighter permit question than the original conversion was.
Troutman sits on the I-77 corridor between Statesville and Mooresville and has been absorbing growth from both ends. That gives it an older village centre with genuinely old properties around it, and a newer subdivision ring that is expanding faster than the centre ever did. The older houses are third-cycle replacements and access problems; the newer ones are first replacements arriving all at once.

What Troutman itself changes
Where the heaters sit
Crawlspace and utility room in the village, garage and closet in the newer subdivisions. On the larger lots outside the town limits, expect the heater to be further from the living space than you would find in Charlotte, which lengthens the wait for hot water at the tap and is a recirculation question rather than a heater fault.
The pipe era
The older centre is where galvanised may still be in service. The subdivision ring is copper and PEX, and weak hot water there is a heater or fitting problem rather than a supply one.
