Replacing a tankless in China Grove
A tankless that has failed is not automatically a tankless that needs replacing. Heat exchangers commonly carry twelve to fifteen year cover while the rest of the unit carries around five, and the exchanger is the most common terminal failure. We run the serial and check the warranty before quoting you for a new unit, because the part is frequently covered even when the labour is not.
Where a replacement is genuinely warranted, the second unit is usually a much simpler job than the first was: the gas line, the venting and the condensate route already exist and were sized once. In China Grove the permit goes through the Town for zoning and Rowan County for inspections, and a like-for-like swap in the same location is a considerably lighter permit question than the original conversion was.
China Grove grew around milling and the town still shows it, right down to the 1903 roller mill in the middle of it. The housing that came with that era is small, close together and still occupied, and the utility spaces in it were sized for the equipment of the time rather than for a modern fifty gallon tank. Newer building sits around the edges. The question we get asked most here is not what it costs to fix but whether a bigger tank will physically go in, and quite often the honest answer is no.

What China Grove itself changes
Where the heaters sit
Utility room, closet and crawlspace through the older streets, garage in the newer building. In the mill-era houses the doorway is frequently the binding constraint, not the floor space, and it is worth measuring before anyone quotes you an upgrade.
The pipe era
The older core is where galvanised supply may still be in service, restricting hot and cold together. Newer edges are copper and PEX.
