Gas, venting and the permit in Stallings
A tankless conversion is a permit job without exception, because it changes the fuel routing, the venting, or both. In Stallings that goes through the Town of Stallings and Union County, and we pull it rather than working around it.
Three things decide whether the install is straightforward or not:
- Gas line capacity. The single most common reason a tankless quote comes in higher than expected. We size the line to the real load rather than assuming the existing one will do.
- Venting. Condensing units need their own sealed venting and a condensate route. Where the old tank vented into a shared flue, that flue may now be oversized for whatever is left on it.
- Where it goes. Garage and closet installs dominate, with attic units in the larger builds. Straightforward access and predictable pricing across most of the town.

What Stallings itself changes
The housing in Stallings
Stallings has the single highest concentration of target-age housing anywhere in the Charlotte metro: 62.6% of the stock was built between 1990 and 2009, with a median build year of 2002. Practically every original water heater in the town has already been replaced once, and that second unit is now reaching the end of its own life.
The pipe era
Copper and PEX in the bulk of the stock, with polybutylene possible in the pre-1997 portion. The pipework is rarely the problem here; the heater usually is.
